The Taiwanese American Association of New York (TAA-NY) is proud to present an event in memory of the 228 Incident and White Terror period in Taiwan. This year's event will consist of two parts. At 6:30pm, guest speaker Dr. Kenneth Wang – himself the son of a 228 victim – will give a speech entitled "228 Victims Amongst the Judicial Elite". A Q&A session will follow the speech. The Memorial Concert (start time 7:30pm) will feature two works directly inspired by the tragedy of 228: First, TAA-NY is honored to present the world premiere of Dr. Lan-In Winnie Yang's "Ballade for Piano, Violin, and Cello," a work written specifically for this event. Then, local dance troupe InTW, founded by Taiwanese dancers Hsiao-Ting Hsieh and Hsiao-Wei Hsieh, will take the stage to give a performance of "Requiem." Rounding out the evening's program will be performances of several Taiwanese folk songs by the TAA-NY chorus and a rendition of czech composer Antonin Dvorak's passionate Piano Trio in F minor, op. 65, by NYC Taiwanese musicians Dr. Lan-In Winnie Yang (piano), Danny TzuTi Chang (violin), and Hwa-Chow Oliver Hsu (cello). Please note that there will be a 20-minute break between the speech and the concert, so that patrons who wish to only attend the concert may enter the theater starting at 7:10pm. Admission is $20.
